Day 13: Sex in the Last Days

Day 13: “Sex in the Last Days”, because you asked for it.

“Sex in the Last Days.” I thought it would get your attention. Studies and surveys, like those conducted by Bill Hybel of Willow Creek Church in Chicago,  suggest that the two most interesting Bible topics that people are interested in knowing more about today are (1) Bible Prophecy and (2) Sex. Therefore, a great Topic that is a sure winner with most people is “Sex in the Last Days!” While at first it might sound funny, think about it. Wouldn’t you be interested in going to a Bible study at your church, school, or bible study group entitled “How to make Sex Feel Good”? You would have a packed church, filled to capacity with young people, since young people are interested in the “bible prophecy and sex!” So how about it? How to have sex in the last days of earth’s history. Are you ready? If you want to find out more about this popular topic, then read on!

Sex in the Bible

For starters, let’s define what sex is. According to Dr. John Knight of the University of Ohio, Sex is both “mental and physical …” and involves “attitudes, actions and events that lead up to physical union known as intercourse, the action itself, and finally the sensuous situation that doctors call orgasm, or the more euphemistic word, climax.”* It is the physical union of a man and a woman (or these days a teenage boy and teenage girl) that leads to physical intercourse and to the experience called “orgasm” or climax. Sex is not taboo. In fact, the author and originator of sex is God the Creator. For the Bible tells us in Genesis 2:19-24,

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
 23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
   and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”

One Flesh

One flesh. Two words that describe the mental, emotional, and physical union that sex creates between two people, a man and a woman. God, who the Bible describes as being the author and Creator of Sex, gave the gift of sexual intimacy to the first man and the first woman, Adam and Eve, and then to the human race as a gift to be enjoyed only between the confines of a marriage relationship. If you think you are smarter than God, beware! If God said it, I believe it, and that settles it!

Although today, most people in general, don’t wait until marriage to have sex, that does not mean that God’s ideal for sexual intimacy only within marriage should be ignored. Have you heard of STDs, Teen Pregnancies,  children born out of wedlock, abortion, etc.? Many of these problems could be avoided if people followed God’s will for their lives instead of following their sexual urge and appetite only. So hands down, the Bible is super clear that sex was created by God to be enjoyed (I want to highlight that word) between the marriage relationship between a man and a woman. The Bible teaches us that if you want to enjoy sex, you have to be willing to make the commitment that two people make in marriage. “Til death do us part.” Otherwise, what you are having is not “real sex”, but “cheap sex”, or fake sex. There must be a life commitment to your marriage partner or spouse that allows you to experience the joy of sexual intimacy!

Sex in the Last Days

With that Bible teaching in mind, do you think God’s ideal for his earthly children has changed from the time of the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve? Do you think it is ok for God’s earthly children to have illicit sex and fake sexual intimacy outside of marriage today? Does God just “blink” over such gross sin, or do you think God has a better plan for you sexual life? Let’s read on to discover the topic, ‘Sex In the last days.”
The book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, is clear is outlining the final events of Bible prophecy, but also in reminding us that it is the revelation of Jesus Christ. After declaring that it is a revelation from Jesus Christ himself (Rev. 1:1-3),  the Book of Revelation declares that it is also a message of love to the human race.

“and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” (Revelation 1:5).

Bible prophecy, the last days of planet earth, are not so much about death, destruction, and catastrophies. The book of Revelation tells us that Bible prophecy is about a Loving God who loves his earthly children so much, He can’t wait any longer! He has to come back to get His earthly children. “Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” Revelation is about a crucified, risen, and soon coming Savior! A Savior with a perfect plan and will for the sexual life of ALL of His earthly children: I.E., YOU, ME, and EVERYONE ELSE on planet earth.

So what is God’s will for his people in the last days? It is found in Revelation in at least two places. First in Revelation 12:11.

“They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
   and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
   as to shrink from death.”

This clear Bible teaching found with the Great Controversy chapter of Revelation 12, tells us that in the end of time God’s people will love God so much that they will be willing to rather die than disobey their Maker or sin against God. It’s like Joseph when Potiphar’s wife wanted to have sex with him. He stated, “How could I do such a thing and sin against God!” In the end of time, “the eschaton”, God’s children will live so close to Christ that they will rather die than sin against God, which includes every area of their lives, emotionally, mentally, sexually, physically, etc.

The second place God’s will for His children in found in the Book of Revelation is in Revelation 14:1-5.

“Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. “

This group of believers are depicted and represented as a symbolic number, known as the 144,000, a perfect square. 12,000 times 12. It is a number that refers to the 12 tribes of Israel, and the 12 apostles of Jesus. IT is a symbolic number that represents God’s committed followers, His definitely-devoted-disciples (3-D Christians). In symbolic language, the Book of Revelation represents this group of people as (1) virgins, (2) who follow the Lamb (Jesus Christ) wherever He goes and leads them, and (3) who are blameless and without fault.

For today’s study, let’s just focus on the first characteristic. They are virgins. The Bible states, “These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins.” Remembering that this is apocalyptic language that is highly symbolic (according to the genre of the book itself), what does a woman represent in Bible prophecy?  According to Revelation 17:1-3 and Revelation 12:1, a woman represents a either a true church or a false church in Bible prophecy. Both the Old and the New Testament allude to this great principle in Bible prophecy interpretation.

"I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman." Jeremiah 6:2.

"Say unto Zion, Thou art my people." Isaiah 51:16.

"I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:2.

In the clear teaching of the Bible, “God describes His people as His bride.” Please see the following texts: Isaiah 54:5, 6; Hosea 2:19; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:22-26.

If a woman in Bible Prophecy represents a true or false church, then the first characteristic of the 144,000 describing them as virgins and not defiling themselves with women must be referring to them as spiritual virgins. That is, they have not defiled themselves with false churches and false doctrines. They follow a pure faith. The faith of Jesus Christ. They have not been contaminated with the STDs and unwanted pregnancies of the false churches in the world today. They only follow the voice of Jesus in the Bible and belong to God’s True Church. That is, I believe the correct interpretation of this passage.

However, I believe that there is more in this passage that meets the eye. If God people are to be spiritually pure and spiritually virgins, do you think God could also be telling us that God’s people in the last days, the 144,000 of Revelation, will also be sexually pure and follow God’s commandments as far as human sexuality is concerned? I believe He is telling us just that today, for it is difficult to imagine God’s people being spiritual virgins and spiritually pure all the while they are having one night stands with different sex partners and sleeping around with anything that moves. You get the picture? I hope so.

Conclusion

Do you want to enjoy sex in the last days? I hope so. God’s plan for your life is to wait until you get married, or if you already are married, to enjoy the sexual intimacy with your partner and only with your partner. Are you ready to make that kind of commitment today? Even if you have made mistakes in the past and tried to substitute a fake and counterfeit sexual intimacy in your life, it’s never late to turn around and seek God’s forgiveness and His perfect will for you life. What do you have to lose? If the world’s way of having sex hasn’t brought you joy, healing, and satisfaction, why not try God’s plan for your sexuality and sexual life? I believe what He has is far better than what the world offers. So start today, to live for God, and consecrate your body to Him.

Practical Steps

  1. Get on all fours and thank God that He is the God of Second Opportunities. Just because you have “messed up” in the past, doesn’t mean you have to keep pleasing the Devil and ruining your life. If you are addicted to sex, get profession help. Go to a Christian Counselor or Sexual Therapist. If you are guy, get a male therapist. And vice versa. Don’t end up having sex with your therapist!

  1. Make God the center and most important thing in your life. Live for God’s Glory. Live in such as way that God will smile and experience joy when He thinks about you. Live to please God, and honor Him in your sexuality and sexual life.

  1. Accept the Bible teaching that if you are single and not married, then YOU WILL NOT BE HAVING SEX ANYTIME SOON. So stop watching pornography and movies  (television shows) with half naked bodies that are tempting you to fall into sexual sins. IF you are Homosexual, and realize that Sex is reserved for marriage and that marriage is a union between A MAN AND A WOMAN (not a man and a man, or a woman and a woman), then like the apostle Paul accept that you will be single and non-sexually active for the rest of your life. Otherwise, you are living in sin, and bringing dishonor to your Creator.

  1. Have a daily devotional life. Read the Gospels every day. Read the Desire of Ages by Ellen G. White. Purpose to live each day by asking yourself, WWJD? What Would Jesus Do?

  1. Remember that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Live for eternity!
